Hi,
it's really hard to give advice to a general question like the one you
asked. Some of it depends on where you are, what you are trying
to sell, the population segment and geographical area you're trying
to reach, etc.
As an example: If you're selling something mail order you don't
really care about the geographical area (or maybe you do,
depending on what it is), but if you provide e.g. a lawn mowing
service even the next town over may be too far.
There's no 'standard recipe' that works for everything.
We'd be able to help you better if you would give us more to go by.
